life in the wilderness...

I will run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.
- Psalm 119

gayly bedight, a gallant knight
in sunshine and in shadow
riding along, singing a song
In search of El Dorado...
- Edgar Allen Poe

Lots of sad news this week

Got reports of two (separate, unrelated) deaths this week. One, a recent missionary friend (someone I met at the Wycliffe camp) and the other, the cousin of a good, good friend of mine.

I wasn't old, deep friends with either of these two, but I got to know them enough to grieve with my friends who are close with them. I sit here dumbfounded by the shock.

I'm sad with and for my friends and with the familes of each of these two people - mainly because they were both so young at the time of their passing. So much of their life ahead of them.

I'm tempted to try and put down some faith-filled comments, but for now, I just want to grieve. I trust & know the other stuff will come later.

encouragement from Steve Jobs

so Pruth forwarded me an email w/ Steve Jobs' commencement speech to some Stanford grads. There's one part that stood out to me, given my situation, and kept a little bit of idealism alive in me...

I'm convinced that the only thing that
kept me going was that I loved what I did.
You've got to find what you love,
and that is as true for work as it is for your lovers.
Your work is going to fill a large part of your life,
and the only way to be truly satisfied
is to do what you believe is great work,
and the only way to do great work is to love what you do.
If you haven't found it yet, keep looking and don't settle.
As with all matters of the heart,
you'll know when you find it,
and like any great relationship
it just gets better and better as the years roll on.
So keep looking. Don't settle.

Right on, man!
